Text Box: About DDD

On December 22, 2011, Dominic Deiro was involved as a passenger in a solo-vehicle drunk driving accident.  He, his stepbrother, and three friends were headed east on Brookside Drive near Pacific Avenue in Stockton, CA when the driver lost control of the car, hit a pole, and flipped the car onto its roof.  Dominic, his stepbrother, and the driver were all transported to the hospital with critical injuries.  However, due to the severe head trauma and brain damage Dominic suffered, he was pronounced brain dead the following day and the family had no choice but to remove him from life support.

Drunk driving accidents are becoming more common each and every day, and almost every person either has or knows someone who has driven under the influence.  In fact, according to the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MAAD) website, an average drunk driver has driven drunk 80 times before first arrest. The group with the highest percentage of drunk drivers involved in fatal car crashes is the 25-34 age range.  These statistics are alarming; however, they could be prevented altogether with the help of designated drivers and programs that support the choice of becoming a DD.
